Dickson Calls for Stronger Institutions, Good Governance on Independence Anniversary

Former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has called on Nigerians to remain committed to strengthening democracy, institutions and equal opportunities as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Dickson, in a post on X on Thursday, said Nigeria’s independence should serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the country’s founding fathers and others who contributed to its development.

He urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to building a country founded on justice, equity, unity, democracy and respect for the dignity of citizens.

Dickson said despite the challenges facing the country, he remained confident in the resilience of Nigerians and Nigeria’s potential.

He described the country’s diversity as a strength and called for collective efforts to preserve democracy, strengthen institutions and create conditions where citizens can live with dignity and hope.

The former governor also marked the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State, describing it as his home state and acknowledging its contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Dickson, who served as governor of Bayelsa State, congratulated Bayelsans on the anniversary and expressed hope for a more prosperous future for the state.

He said he was confident that Bayelsans would continue to contribute to Nigeria’s development.

On the country’s political future, Dickson said the Nigeria Democratic Congress remained committed to providing what he described as a platform for national renewal.

He said the party would present candidates at different levels who are committed to service and good governance.

Dickson expressed confidence that, with the support of Nigerians, the party’s candidates would be able to secure mandates to serve.

He urged Nigerians to keep faith in the country and continue working together toward a stronger, more united and prosperous Nigeria.

Dickson ended his message by congratulating Nigeria on its 66th Independence Anniversary and Bayelsa State on its 30th anniversary.
