Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has declared a three-day state mourning following the death of the state’s Deputy Governor, beginning Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
According to a statement issued Thursday, all flags across the state are to fly at half-mast throughout the mourning period as a mark of respect.
Governor Diri offered prayers for the bereaved family and the people of Bayelsa, asking for “God’s comfort and strength for the family and the entire state.” He also prayed that the late Deputy Governor’s soul “rests in the bosom of the Lord.”
