DSS Arrests Fugitive Son of Ex-Pension Reforms Boss, Hands Him Over to EFCC

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of former Pension Reform Task Team Chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina, and handed him over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Security sources say Faisal, who had been on the run since 2020, was arrested by DSS operatives in the Karsana area of Abuja following credible intelligence that he had secretly returned to Nigeria.

Faisal was prosecuted by the EFCC on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering and conspiracy.

However, he violated his bail conditions and fled the country, forcing the trial to continue in his absence.

In 2021, Justice Okon Abang convicted him and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.

The court also ordered that he be arrested wherever he was found in Nigeria and remanded in a correctional centre to serve his sentence.

The court further directed the Federal Government to take lawful steps to secure his extradition if he was found outside the country.

According to security sources, Faisal's handover to the EFCC is expected to facilitate the enforcement of the court's judgment and ensure he serves his prison sentence in accordance with the law.
