EFCC Boss Vows Recovered Assets Won’t be Mismanaged

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has assured Nigerians that no recovered asset will be mismanaged under his leadership.

Olukoyede, in a statement on his X handle, opposed calls for the establishment of a single agency to manage all assets recovered by government agencies.

He argued that centralised management would be impractical, noting that more than 20 statutory agencies recover assets on behalf of the government.

He also cited examples from the United Kingdom and South Africa, where similar centralised arrangements were discontinued.

The EFCC chairman said the Proceeds of Crime Act provides a more effective framework by making individual agencies responsible for accounting for assets recovered under their mandates.

Olukoyede added that the EFCC publishes information on its recovered assets on its website within 24 hours, while its annual reports have been submitted to the National Assembly on time throughout his tenure.

He challenged government agencies to account for assets recovered under their respective mandates, pledging that “not a pin nor a penny” of recovered assets will be mismanaged under his watch.
