The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede, has described Zamfara State as an example of transformational leadership under Governor Dauda Lawal.
Olukoyede made the remarks while delivering the keynote address at a lecture marking the state's 30th anniversary at the Government House in Gusau.
He said he conducted background checks on Governor Lawal and the state before accepting the invitation, adding that he was impressed by the changes recorded in Zamfara over the past three years.
The EFCC chairman, who said it was his first visit to the state, highlighted the new airport, improved road networks and solar-powered streetlights as evidence of development in Gusau.
He also commended the state for its improved performance in national examinations, including those conducted by the National Examinations Council, NECO, and the West African Examinations Council, WAEC.
Olukoyede said the developments reflected deliberate reform efforts by the state government, adding that inviting the EFCC chairman to speak on governance and accountability demonstrated Governor Lawal's commitment to transparency.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal said the anniversary theme, 'Reflections, Achievements and the Future', provided an opportunity to examine the state's challenges and discuss ways to secure a better future.
He said discussions at the anniversary lecture focused on public accountability, community involvement in tackling insecurity, the preservation of history and culture, as well as the relationship between security and economic development.
The governor also highlighted his administration's Six-Point Rescue Agenda and the Zamfara State Development Plan 2025–2034 as frameworks for addressing the state's challenges and improving the lives of residents.
