Eid-al-Maulud: Nigeria Announces Wednesday as Public Holiday

The federal government has declared Wednesday as a national holiday to mark Eid-al-Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

Announcing this in a statement on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Oluwatoyin Akinlade, quoted his principal, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as urging Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance, which are deep spiritual virtues that the Prophet Muhammad exemplified.

Tunji-Ojo specifically urged Nigerian youths to be hardworking and peaceful toward fellow humans, irrespective of faith, ideology, social class, or ethnicity.

He also called for support for President Bola Tinubu in his quest to build a progressive and enviable nation that all citizens would be proud of.

The minister further congratulated the Muslim faithful across the world for witnessing the 2023 Maulud.
