Emefiele, Yakubu Attend National Council of State Meeting with Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the meeting of the National Council of State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. 

Preparations for the 2023 General Election, the redesigned currency swap policy, and security are topping the meeting's agenda.

As a result, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba are at the meeting.

Former military Heads of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) are also in attendance, as is former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Two former Chief Justices of the Federation, Alfa Belgore and Mahmud Muhammad, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are at the meeting, as well.

Also physically present are the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Heads of Service of the Federation.

So also are the Governors of Gombe, Kwara, Borno, Lagos, Taraba, and Kaduna, and the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum; Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Bagudu, and the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong; joined virtually.

The Governors of Kogi, Osun, Ebonyi, Ogun, and Jigawa States; and the Deputy Governors of Nasarawa, Enugu, and Benue States also joined virtually.

The National Council of State is the highest decision-making body in Nigeria and consists of serving and past heads of state or presidents, state governors, and other senior government officials.
