Enugu Air has dismissed reports that one of its aircraft crashed at Benin Airport, describing the incident as a runway excursion during landing.
The airline says the aircraft hydroplaned on the runway after a scheduled flight from Lagos to Benin and veered off during the landing roll.
Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Air, Captain Tolu Ita, confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.
She said the airline is cooperating fully with aviation authorities to determine what caused the incident.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the occurrence.
The agency says all 63 passengers and five crew members aboard the Embraer E170 were safely accounted for and a preliminary report will be released within 30 days.
