Eric Dane, the actor best known for playing Dr Mark Sloan on the television drama Grey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53.
U.S. media reported that he passed away on Thursday afternoon.
His family said in a statement that he died after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The condition is also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Dane was born in San Francisco.
He made his television debut in 1991 on Saved by the Bell.
The actor rose to fame in 2006 when he joined Grey’s Anatomy.
He appeared in 139 episodes of the series through 2021.
Dane also featured in the HBO drama Euphoria.
He remained active in television projects throughout his career.
