Federal Government to Launch Nationwide Digital TV Switch Over June 17

Nigeria is set to complete its transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting after years of delays, with the Federal Government announcing a nationwide rollout of the Digital Switch Over project.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement announcing a new partnership between the National Broadcasting Commission and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited to power the upgraded digital broadcasting framework through satellite technology.

According to the minister, the new DSO platform will be officially commissioned on June 17, 2026.

He says the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to improve broadcast quality, audience measurement, competition and content delivery across the country.

The government also says digital broadcasting will expand viewing options for Nigerians and create a more competitive environment for broadcasters and advertisers.
