Femi Gbajabiamila Hails Lagos APC Primary Amid Intimidation Claims

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the All Progressives Congress House of Assembly primary election in Surulere Constituency I, Lagos State, as peaceful, transparent and orderly.

Gbajabiamila made the remarks on Wednesday after participating in the exercise at Ward G2, Adeniran Ogunsanya Ward 5, located within the Alaka Housing Estate in Surulere.

He commended party members for maintaining order during the primary, noting that the turnout was impressive despite the exercise being an internal party election.

According to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, the process in his ward reflected credibility and fairness, adding that feedback from other wards suggested a similarly peaceful exercise across the constituency.

His comments, however, came amid claims of intimidation by the constituency’s incumbent lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, who withdrew from the race during the exercise.

Despite the controversy, Chairman of the Leaders Forum in Ward G2, Mr Ekundayo Decker, described the exercise as a demonstration of internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress.

He maintained that the process was peaceful and devoid of violence or disruption.

Surulere Constituency I emerged as one of the flashpoints of Wednesday’s APC primaries, with reports of tension surrounding the contest between Elliot, who was seeking a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was reportedly backed by party leaders including Gbajabiamila.
