The Federal Government says its fourth evacuation flight carrying stranded Nigerians from South Africa is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday evening, as efforts continue to bring citizens home safely.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed the update in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
According to the ministry, the Air Peace-operated flight is scheduled to land at 7:30 p.m. and will transport 282 Nigerian returnees, including adults and infants, along with government officials coordinating the evacuation.
"The expected time of arrival of the fourth evacuation flight from South Africa today, operated by Air Peace, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, is 7:30 p.m.," the ministry said.
The ministry said the latest flight is part of the Federal Government's ongoing evacuation programme aimed at assisting Nigerians stranded in South Africa and ensuring their safe return.
The flight had initially been scheduled to depart on Wednesday but was delayed after a technical fault was discovered on the aircraft.
According to earlier reports, the aircraft could not take off after cracks were detected on the cockpit windscreen, prompting the airline to suspend the flight until the issue was resolved.
The latest operation marks the fourth evacuation flight under the Federal Government's current repatriation exercise, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with Air Peace.
The evacuation comes amid continued government efforts to support Nigerians facing difficulties in South Africa and follows previous repatriation flights conducted under the same arrangement.
