The final batch of Nigerian nationals evacuated from South Africa has departed Pretoria for Johannesburg to board a Federal Government-chartered Air Peace flight back to Nigeria following a wave of xenophobic attacks.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu announced the departure in a post on X late Monday, describing the journey as "Home Sweet Home."
According to the minister, the evacuees left the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria for O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where they boarded the chartered aircraft scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday morning.
The evacuation follows recent xenophobic protests and attacks targeting black migrants in parts of South Africa, prompting the Federal Government to arrange the return of affected Nigerians.
