Flooding Forces TCN to Declare Force Majeure at Lagos Substations

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared force majeure at its Oworonshoki 132/33kV and Lekki 330/132kV transmission substations after persistent rainfall caused severe flooding in Lagos.

TCN announced the development in a statement on Wednesday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.

The company said the Oworonshoki substation is out of service after floodwaters submerged cables connected to two transformers, frustrating efforts to restore power.

"Presently all power protection and control cables of the two power transformers are submerged inside water, and efforts to evacuate the water have proved ineffective as the rain continues to fall," Mbah said.

She said the Lekki substation remains operational while engineers continue pumping out floodwater to prevent further damage.

TCN said its engineers are working to restore the affected transformers and apologized to customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company affected by the disruption.
