The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide Zonal Special Intervention Patrol aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through intelligence-driven enforcement across the country.
The initiative, approved by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, will see all 12 FRSC zonal commands implement targeted operations designed to address the leading causes of road crashes in their respective regions.
According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ohaeri, the Special Intervention Patrol combines intensified enforcement, sustained public education, stakeholder engagement, improved rescue preparedness and increased operational visibility to tackle offences that continue to claim lives on Nigerian roads.
The FRSC said each zonal command has been tasked with identifying and responding to crash trends unique to its operational area, allowing interventions to be tailored to local road safety challenges rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Corps Marshal Mohammed described the operation as a significant shift from conventional traffic enforcement to intelligence-led policing, saying the strategy is designed to deliver more effective and measurable results.
He said each operation has been carefully developed to target dangerous driving behaviours and traffic violations that contribute to avoidable deaths, injuries and property damage on highways across the country.
The FRSC expressed confidence that the intervention would strengthen compliance with traffic regulations, improve emergency response and ultimately reduce the number of crashes and fatalities on Nigerian roads.
