Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a fugitive drug kingpin and a former international footballer to a combined 24 years in prison for unlawful importation of cocaine.
Justice Musa Kakaki sentenced Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu to 22 years imprisonment and Hunkarin Segun George to two years over their involvement in importing cocaine into Nigeria.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said Chinedu was initially arraigned in 2015 but jumped bail and remained at large for nearly 10 years.
NDLEA said he was re-arrested in June 2025 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to smuggle 800 grams of cocaine into the country.
The agency said investigations led to the arrest of Hunkarin, who was allegedly waiting to collect the consignment at the airport car park.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the judgment, saying the conviction showed that drug traffickers cannot escape justice regardless of how long they remain on the run.
