Zamfara State Gov. Dauda Lawal will join a high-level Federal Government delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a leadership exchange focused on strengthening subnational action on nutrition and learning from Ethiopia’s experience.
The delegation, approved by President Bola Tinubu, will be led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and is scheduled to depart Tuesday ahead of the Oct. 7-9 exchange.
Other governors on the delegation are AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Alex Otti of Abia, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno, Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Umar Namadi of Jigawa.
The visit builds on commitments made by the Federal Government at the 148th National Economic Council meeting during the launch of the Nutrition 774 Initiative, which seeks to accelerate nutrition interventions across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Ethiopia’s Seqota Declaration is expected to provide a key learning model for the Nigerian delegation.
The initiative was launched in 2015 after Ethiopia committed to ending stunting among children under 2 by 2030.
According to Zamfara governor’s spokesperson Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Nigerian delegation will examine how Ethiopia has translated political commitment into coordinated, funded and accountable nutrition programs at the subnational level.
The Seqota Declaration is implemented through a multisectoral framework involving nine government ministries and follows a 15-year roadmap divided into three phases: Innovation, Expansion and Scale-Up.
