Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been named The Sun Newspaper’s Best Governor of the Year 2025 in recognition of his administration’s achievements in governance and service delivery.
The award was presented on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Sun Awards ceremony held at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
A statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the award underscores Governor Lawal’s leadership style and the impact of his policies since assuming office.
According to the statement, the management of The Sun honours individuals who have demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions to national and state development.
“Governor Dauda Lawal receiving the Best Governor of the Year 2025 award clearly shows that his administration’s rescue mission is on the right track,” the statement said.
It added that since his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Governor Lawal has pursued reforms aimed at rebuilding Zamfara State despite inheriting what it described as a depleted treasury.
The spokesperson noted that security has remained a top priority of the administration, revealing that the state government has spent billions of naira over the past two years to tackle insecurity.
The statement also cited achievements in key sectors, including health, education, infrastructure, economic development, and workers’ welfare.
“These are but a few of the reasons the Sun Newspapers honoured the governor, and such recognition will serve as a morale booster, encouraging him to do more to ensure good governance in Zamfara State,” it said.
In a related development, the Zamfara State Government recently emerged as the top-performing state in the North-West zone at the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge in December 2025.
