Government Committed to Cyberspace Security –Pantami

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) says the Nigerian government is committed to the security of the country’s cyberspace.

Prof. Pantami said this at the stakeholders' consultative forum on emerging technologies organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Lagos.

‘’In this government, we have so many initiatives to ensure our cyberspace is protected,’’ he told the audience.

The Minister outlined policies that have been launched to monitor cyberspace and added that they have yielded positive results.

‘’We recently launched a National Cybersecurity Policy.

‘’We established many cybersecurity incidence response teams that are monitoring our cyberspace and advising government and public institutions on what to do to ensure that we are protected.’’

Addressing the issue of regulation in the digital and communications sector, Prof. Pantami described it as ‘’developmental’’.

According to him, the regulations guiding its operation do not restrict but rather support development in the sector.

‘’Our regulatory approach from 2019 till date based on the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a digital Nigeria is developmental regulation.

‘’We have made our regulatory approach to be somehow flexible.

“It is not in any way to restrict unnecessarily the development of the sector but rather to support development,’’ He noted.
