
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who died on Friday morning in Abuja after a prolonged illness. He was 71 years old.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal described the Emir’s death as a personal loss and paid tribute to his leadership and service to the state.
"I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau," the governor said.
"I expressed my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, immediate and extended families of the late Emir, Gusau emirate, as well as the entire people of Zamfara State."
Governor Lawal noted that the Emir’s contributions went beyond the state.
"His Highness's passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara State, as well as for the North and Nigeria as a whole."
He also highlighted the Emir’s decade-long reign and prior service in the civil service.
"The late royal father dedicated 10 years of serving the people after becoming the 15th Emir of Gusau on 16 March 2015. He led with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of faith."
"The late Emir was an accomplished civil servant who rose to the highest position of Permanent Secretary during his service in old Sokoto and Zamfara states."
Governor Lawal described the late monarch as more than a traditional leader.
"I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me and other state leaders. May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah."
The 16th Emir succeeded his father who died on March 16, 2015.
Bello was a civil servant who rose to the highest position of Permanent Secretary during his service in old Sokoto and Zamfara states.

BE LAW ABIDING – ZAMFARA GOVERNMENT TELLS ELECTORATE
Alhaji Iliyasu Maijega, Special Adviser to Zamfara governor on political matters has urged political parties in the state to abide by electoral laws during the forthcoming Kaura Namoda state assembly bye-election.
Maijega, who made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Gusau on Thursday, an urged political party in the state to desist from vote buying during the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has slated Aug. 16 to conduct the bye-election for Kaura Namoda South State House of Assembly constituency in Zamfara.
The scheduled bye-election follows the death of Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar-Daji, member who represented the constituency in the state house of assembly earlier in April
