Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Talay Riley, has been stabbed to death in East London, United Kingdom.
The singer, born Mark Yinka Orabiyi, reportedly died after a stabbing incident that occurred on Pankhurst Avenue in the Silvertown area of East London on Friday morning.
According to local reports, emergency services responded to the scene around 9 a.m. and made efforts to save the 35-year-old musician, but he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have since launched a murder investigation, with homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command leading inquiries into the incident.
In a statement confirming his death, Riley's family expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“It is with overwhelming sadness that we confirm that Mark ‘Yinka’ Orabiyi, professionally known as Talay Riley, passed away yesterday morning,” the statement said.
The family described him as a talented Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum-selling songwriter and artist whose impact extended beyond music.
“Talay will fondly be remembered by those who knew him publicly for his incredible talent as a Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling songwriter and artist.
“For those that knew and loved him personally, it is his humour, generous spirit and unmistakable presence that will be missed the most,” the statement added.
Among Riley's notable works was "Lights On" by H.E.R., a song he co-wrote for the singer's Grammy-winning self-titled project.
He also contributed to hit songs including "Young Dumb & Broke" by Khalid and worked with artistes such as Dua Lipa, Usher, and Craig David
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
