Suspected gunmen have killed five people in a late-night attack on Nding Susut community in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, sparking fresh fear among residents.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community around 9pm on Tuesday, opening fire on unsuspecting victims.

A local resident, Weng Christopher, said five members of the same family were killed instantly, while another person also lost their life during the attack.

He described the incident as “alarming and distressing,” noting that such attacks have become increasingly frequent.

The Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killings and called for urgent intervention by security agencies.

He revealed that the attackers also attempted to invade Rim community in neighbouring Riyom LGA the same night but were repelled by vigilantes and Operation Rainbow personnel.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that four females and a nine-year-old boy were among those killed, while three others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to the area, assuring residents that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

Residents of Barkin Ladi have since called on authorities to take decisive action, warning that the persistent attacks have left communities living in constant fear.
