The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed officers of the Kano State Police Command to step up operations against criminal groups across the state.
He said proactive and intelligence-led policing remains key to tackling insecurity and protecting economic activities, especially in major commercial centres like Kano. The directive was delivered during a strategic lecture at the state police headquarters in Bompai.
The police leadership also unveiled a six-point security strategy focused on intelligence-led policing, community engagement, inter-agency cooperation, and improved accountability.
Officers were urged to use modern tools like crime data systems and digital forensics to track and dismantle criminal networks.
The Kano State Police Command said it has already recorded major progress, arresting and prosecuting over 1,300 suspects between January and June 2026 for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, and drug-related crimes.
It also identified ongoing threats such as bandit infiltration, gang activity, and communal clashes, while promising sustained operations across the state.
