The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake a viral online article claiming that it has released the timetable for the 2027 General Elections, urging Nigerians to disregard the report.
The Commission described the article, titled “BREAKING: INEC Releases Timetable for 2027 General Elections,” as entirely false and misleading.
“INEC has not released any official timetable, schedule of activities, or dates for the 2027 General Elections,” the Commission said.
“Any document or report suggesting otherwise is fabricated and does not represent the plans or position of the Commission.”
INEC clarified that details contained in the circulating report, including proposed election dates, campaign periods and party primary windows, are speculative and have no official basis.
The electoral body advised the public, political parties and other stakeholders to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate information.
These include its official website, inecnigeria.org, its verified social media handles @inecnigeria on X, Facebook and Instagram, as well as official press statements and bulletins.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, assuring Nigerians that all announcements regarding the 2027 elections will be made through proper channels and at the appropriate time.
