INEC Denies Issuing Access Code to Nafiu Gombe-led ADC Faction

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied issuing an access code to the Nafiu Gombe-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the code for candidate nominations was granted only to the Sen. David Mark-led leadership of the party.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the commission’s records were clear that the Mark faction had been issued the portal access code before a recent Court of Appeal judgment affected the group’s state congresses.

Haruna said the Mark-led faction had already used the access code to submit more than 400 candidate names and details, including those of the presidential candidate and running mate, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The clarification follows claims by Nafiu Gombe that his faction had successfully uploaded presidential and National Assembly candidates on the INEC portal.

The dispute has deepened the crisis within the ADC, with the Mark faction accusing the Gombe-led group of using allegedly forged INEC documents to make unauthorised claims.

Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had also criticised INEC over the controversy, alleging that the commission allowed the Gombe faction access to the nomination portal despite recognising the David Mark-led executive.
