The Independent National Electoral Commission has introduced Quick Response (QR) codes to help registered voters in Lagos State locate centres where they can verify their details in the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, announced the initiative on Tuesday during a briefing on the commission’s preparations for the elections.
Salami said the display of the voters’ register began on October 9 across the state’s 245 Registration Areas and wards.
The exercise, which ends on October 15, allows voters to confirm their personal details and identify errors that need correction.
He urged registered voters to take advantage of the exercise before the deadline, noting that Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, the highest number in the country.
The REC also announced that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had begun at designated centres across the state’s 20 local government areas.
He said the cards currently available are for people who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, as well as those who registered between 2011 and 2022 but have yet to collect their cards, subject to INEC’s records.
However, PVCs for people who registered between January 5 and July 26, 2026, are not yet available.
Salami said the commission would announce collection arrangements through its official channels.
He urged eligible voters to collect their cards when available and keep them safe, stressing that PVCs are required for accreditation on election day.
Salami reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting transparent, inclusive and credible elections in 2027, while urging political parties, civil society groups and community leaders to promote peaceful participation.
