The Independent National Electoral Commission has presented the register of voters for the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, with a total of 1,059,360 registered voters confirmed for the poll.
INEC Chairman Joash Ojo Amupitan led a delegation of National Commissioners to the state on Wednesday for a readiness assessment and formal presentation of the voters register to political parties.
Speaking during the event, Amupitan said seven out of nine major activities in the election timetable had already been completed, while campaigns would officially end on June 18 ahead of the election two days later.
He described the voters register as the foundation of credible elections, adding that the register was compiled after rigorous verification and data-cleaning exercises to remove duplicates, deceased persons and ineligible registrants.
According to the INEC chairman, the number of registered voters in the state rose from about 900,000 after the Continuous Voter Registration exercise to more than 1.05 million voters.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Bunmi Omoseyindemi said the commission had intensified preparations through voter education campaigns, logistics reviews, BVAS testing, security coordination and training of electoral personnel across the 16 local government areas.
INEC also warned against vote buying and electoral malpractice, describing vote trading as a criminal offence under the Electoral Act.
The commission assured residents of the state that votes cast during the governorship election would count.
