INEC Schedules Primaries in Restored Constituencies Across Four States

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled June 16 to June 25, 2026, for political party primaries in restored constituencies across Benue, Delta, Jigawa and Kogi states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC said the decision follows court judgments ordering the restoration of previously suppressed constituencies and is in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the Electoral Act 2026.

The affected constituencies include Nyamatsor, Ukum Afia, Konshisha III (Shangev-Tiev), Makurdi III (South East) and Gboko III in Benue State.

In Delta State, the constituencies are Aniocha North II, Ika North East II, Sapele II, Ethiope West II, Warri South West II and Warri North II.

The commission also listed Aujara State Constituency in Jigawa State, alongside Adavi East, Eika, Ajaokuta North, Bassa-Komu, Dekina Town and District, Ijumu II, Kabba-Bunu II, Koton Karfe II, Igala Ogua and Ogugu in Kogi State.

INEC said the timetable is designed to allow political parties complete nominations in the restored constituencies in line with the broader 2027 election schedule.

The commission stressed that all other timelines and activities already contained in the revised timetable for the 2027 general elections remain applicable to the affected constituencies.

It also directed political parties to submit notices of their primaries ahead of the scheduled dates and comply fully with electoral guidelines.

The statement was signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
