The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will deploy more than 1.4 million ad hoc staff, largely drawn from the National Youth Service Corps, for the 2027 general elections.
The INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a strategic visit to the headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps in Abuja.
He said corps members remain central to election administration in Nigeria, serving as presiding officers and other key field officials across polling units nationwide.
Amupitan also said INEC deployed about 1.2 million ad hoc staff during the 2023 elections, with corps members making up the majority.
He added that more than 700,000 corps members will be needed for each of the two major election phases in 2027, alongside additional personnel for off-cycle governorship and bye-elections.
INEC says it will also strengthen welfare, insurance, and security arrangements for corps members involved in election duties.
