Iranian authorities have announced a six-day programme of funeral and mourning ceremonies for Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and other individuals described as martyrs.
According to a statement from the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of Ayatollah Khamenei, the ceremonies will take place across Tehran, Qom and Mashhad.
The programme is scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 4, with a farewell ceremony at the Imam Khomeini Shrine in Tehran. A major funeral procession is expected to follow in the Iranian capital on Monday, July 6.
Mourning events will then move to the holy city of Qom on Tuesday, July 7, before concluding in Mashhad on Thursday, July 9, with a funeral procession and burial ceremony at the Imam Reza Shrine.
The final day of the ceremonies coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Sajjad, a significant date in the Islamic calendar.
