Iran Fires Missiles, Drones at Kuwait, Bahrain After U.S. Raid

Iran launched ballistic missile and drone attacks on U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain on Sunday, sharply escalating tensions in the Gulf after American forces struck five Iranian military targets a day earlier.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters at Port Salman in Bahrain in retaliation for U.S. strikes on military sites near the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. military said Saturday's strikes targeted 10 Iranian military facilities after an Iranian drone reportedly attacked the Panama-flagged oil tanker Kiku near the strategic waterway.

Bahrain condemned the Iranian strikes as a violation of its sovereignty that undermines "opportunities for de-escalation and stability in the region."

Kuwait also denounced what it described as "repeated heinous Iranian aggressions" and a "flagrant violation" of its territorial integrity.

Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Oman also condemned the attacks, warning that further escalation could destabilize the Gulf and urging all parties to return to dialogue.

The exchange has placed renewed strain on the U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement signed earlier this month, which includes commitments to maintain safe commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any further military action could delay the reopening of the vital shipping lane, while President Donald Trump accused Tehran of violating the agreement and warned of a stronger U.S. response if attacks continue.

Investigations into the latest strikes and their impact are ongoing as regional leaders push for diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict.
