Iran has threatened to adopt a tougher strategy against the United States after the latest escalation in the war left at least 19 people dead, including four killed at a wedding in southern Iran.
The latest exchanges marked some of the heaviest fighting between the two sides in weeks, with Iran launching a wave of attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.
The attacks came after extensive U.S. bombardment of targets across Iran, further deepening the standoff between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian authorities reacted angrily to reports that a U.S. strike hit a wedding ceremony in the southern city of Sirik.
The Iranian Red Crescent said four people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 others injured in the incident.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei described the attack as a “war crime,” accusing the United States of targeting civilians.
The U.S. military did not directly address the reported strike on the wedding, but U.S. Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins said American forces do not target civilians.
He accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of doing so instead.
Meanwhile, the conflict continues to affect global energy routes, with Iran maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for international oil shipments, while the United States maintains pressure on Iranian ports through its counter-blockade.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei warned that Tehran would change its approach to the conflict.
Rezaei said Iran would introduce a “new strategy” covering its military operations, diplomacy and response to the economic blockade.
He warned that the strategy would challenge the United States on multiple fronts as the war continues.
