JAMB: Senate Proposes Establishment of CBT Centres in All 774 LGs

Following admission that there were errors in this year's examination by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Senate has suggested that at least one Computer-Base testing (CBT) centre be set up in each of the 774 local government areas of the country.

This suggestion was made during Thursday's plenary session at the chambers by the lawmakers who noted this would help prevent future occurrences.

Mohammed Dandutse, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND noted the absence of CBT centres in some parts of the country is a serious concern.

According to him, there would be budgetary provision for this purpose in the 2026 fiscal year.

“I am from Katsina South senatorial district, where only two out of the 11 local government councils have ICT centres for UTME.

“Since the examination is computer-based, centres for it need to be made available across the 774 local government councils in the country. In doing this, this committee of the senate, in collaboration with our colleagues in the House of Representatives, shall facilitate budgetary provisions for it in the 2026 fiscal year”, he said.

Recall that, JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday at a press briefing in Abuja noted errors affected the performance of candidates in this year's examination.

His emotional admission follows public indignation over what many termed to be irregularities in the set questions and the answers of this year's exam, as well as the unexpected relatively low scores, and technical glitches.

A teary Oloyede during Wednesday's briefing revealed that about 379,997 candidates who sat for the examination would retake it owing to the errors.

The examination body upon a review further discovered 157 out of the 887 centres suffered technical glitches.
