Jonathan Urges Nigerians to Protect Peace, Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to protect peace, unity and justice as the country prepares for another electoral season in the coming months.

Jonathan made the call in an Independence Day message posted on X as Nigeria marks its 66th anniversary of independence.

He said Nigeria had faced numerous challenges since gaining independence but had continued to overcome them through what he described as the collective resilience of its people.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and hope while continuing to work together for the country’s development.

Looking ahead to the next electoral season, the former president said the period would test Nigeria’s democratic maturity and called on citizens to remain patriotic.

He urged Nigerians to prioritise actions that safeguard peace, unity and justice during the electoral period.

Jonathan said Nigeria had significant opportunities ahead if the country could harness its diversity and natural and human resources to drive sustainable development.

He also called on young Nigerians and other citizens to maintain hope, show courage and work toward building a country capable of providing a prosperous future for coming generations.

The former president said achieving that future would require greater responsibility and patriotism from leaders at all levels.

He called for personal sacrifice, good governance, accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law in addressing Nigeria’s social and economic challenges.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to remain committed to national service and work toward building what he described as a peaceful, secure and equitable nation for present and future generations.
