The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it generated N63.08 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, representing a 7.4 per cent increase over the same period in 2025.
Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller U.U. Adamu disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday in Kano.
Adamu said the command also recovered about N3 billion from the abuse of customs transit procedures, while the Kano Free Trade Zone generated over N26 billion during the first half of the year.
“The success recorded in the first half of 2026 demonstrates the unwavering commitment, professionalism and resilience of the command officers and men,” he said.
On enforcement, Adamu said intelligence-driven operations led to seizures with a duty-paid value of N1.711 billion.
The seized items included unregistered pharmaceuticals such as tramadol and pregabalin, four air pistols, elephant tusks, more than 2,000 kegs of foreign vegetable oil, military gear, smuggled vehicles, foreign spaghetti and macaroni, parboiled rice, and counterfeit agrochemical packaging materials.
According to him, 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, while some have been handed over to relevant security and regulatory agencies for further investigation.
The command also intercepted undeclared foreign currencies and 35 kilograms of silver bars valued at N175 million at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The seized currencies included 568,100 US dollars, 134,256 Saudi Riyals, 28 Chinese Yuan, and 20 Ghana Cedis.
“These remarkable achievements and significant interceptions did not occur by chance. They were the result of deliberate and coordinated strategies deployed by the command,” Adamu said.
He added that the command would sustain intelligence-driven operations, strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and continue to facilitate legitimate trade while protecting Nigeria’s economy and boosting government revenue.
