Kano Government Clarifies Road Repairs Are Part of Broader Urban Renewal Efforts

The Kano State government has clarified that ongoing road repairs are not limited to those leading to the Government House, but are part of a larger urban renewal initiative encompassing over 300 projects across the state.

The government emphasized that the urban renewal program targets key roads and infrastructure aimed at improving traffic flow, public safety, and access across Kano.

The clarification comes amid public criticism suggesting that the state’s infrastructure efforts are focused solely on areas surrounding the Government House.

The State Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring, and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma'aji Sumaila, disclosed this on Arewa Radio’s Daka da Waje (Zangon Barka da Safiya) on Monday.

According to him, “The projects are spread across various local government areas and are not concentrated in the central government district.”

Additionally, the government has issued a directive to all contractors handling major road projects to expedite their work and ensure completion before the onset of the rainy season.

“Two months ago, His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sat with all the contractors to ensure the timely completion of the projects. Now we have three more months remaining.

"We are monitoring the progress and will continue to monitor it to ensure everything goes as planned,” he said.

The commissioner also said, “The move is to avoid delays and reduce the risk of flooding and transportation challenges during heavy rains.”

The commissioner, however, urged residents in the State to monitor the projects to ensure accountability and efficiency.
