The Kano State government has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for rescuing Alhaji Hamza Durya, the Administrative Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, after he was abducted at his residence. Gunmen had demanded a N100 million ransom.

In a statement Wednesday, Commissioner of Information Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya described the operation as “swift and coordinated.”

Two suspected kidnappers were arrested, sustaining bullet wounds during the rescue.

“The Kano State Government commends the DSS and other security agencies for their prompt response and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” the statement read.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was lauded for providing resources that enhanced the operational capacity of security forces.

The government reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security and urged the public to report suspicious activities.

“This achievement underscores the effectiveness of ongoing security strategies across the state’s 44 local government areas,” the statement added, highlighting the dedication of the security agencies.

The successful rescue marks a significant victory in Kano’s fight against kidnapping, reinforcing the government’s resolve to protect lives and maintain stability throughout the state.
