Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has ordered an immediate review of existing security strategies to combat a sudden resurgence of armed bandit attacks across parts of the state.
The directive followed an emergency security meeting held Saturday at the Government House in the state capital of Birnin Kebbi, where top security chiefs and government officials gathered to evaluate recent security challenges and strengthen response efforts.
The high-level closed-door session included the brigade commander, commissioner of police, director of the State Security Service, and the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Leaders from the local vigilante group, as well as controllers of Customs and Immigration services, were also in attendance.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Governor Idris expressed grave concern over the renewed frequency of the incursions and emphasized that protecting lives and properties remains his administration's utmost priority.
State authorities are expected to roll out adjusted deployment plans and intelligence-sharing frameworks in the coming days to neutralize bandit groups operating near border communities and rural areas
