Kenya has confirmed its first case of Ebola after a citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo died in Nairobi.
According to health authorities, the patient travelled from DR Congo through Uganda before arriving in Nairobi, where the person later tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
At least 28 people who came into contact with the patient have been identified, while health officials are carrying out further contact tracing and monitoring.
Authorities are also tracing 23 passengers and four crew members who travelled on the same flight as the patient, as part of efforts to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed to the virus.
The confirmation has prompted increased surveillance and public health measures in Kenya as authorities work to prevent further transmission and contain any potential spread of the disease.
