Kuwait's Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that its air defense systems intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones launched from Iran that entered Kuwaiti airspace since dawn, preventing potential damage in populated areas.
The ministry said the interceptions took place over several residential areas across the country, with debris from the destroyed projectiles falling in some locations.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said its forces responded swiftly to the aerial threats and successfully neutralized the incoming missiles and drones.
“The armed forces have dealt with 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones that entered Kuwaiti airspace since dawn,” the ministry said.
Authorities did not immediately report any casualties or significant property damage resulting from the interceptions or falling debris.
However, the ministry urged residents to avoid affected areas and refrain from approaching any missile or drone remnants until security personnel complete clearance operations.
“We call on citizens and residents not to approach any sites where debris may have fallen and to allow specialized teams to carry out their work safely,” the ministry said.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased military activity across the Gulf, raising concerns about the risk of a wider conflict affecting neighboring countries.
Kuwaiti authorities said they remain on high alert and are closely monitoring developments while taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country's airspace and civilian population.
