UPDATE: Kwankwaso Resigns from NNPP

Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People's Party, (NNPP).

Kwankwaso announced his resignation in a press statement on Sunday, describing the move as a strategic step in response to Nigeria’s changing political landscape.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he stated.

The former NNPP national leader said the decision, though difficult, became necessary after careful consideration of the country’s political direction.

According to him, “considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation.”

Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the party leadership, including National Chairman Ajuri Ahmed, the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and members across all levels for their support during his time in the party.

He also acknowledged the commitment of supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Despite his exit, he maintained that his focus remains on national development, noting that efforts to build a better and more prosperous Nigeria would continue in collaboration with other stakeholders.

His expected defection to the ADC is likely to reshape political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in Kano State and the wider northern region where he commands strong grassroots support.
