The Labour Party has denied claims that it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its candidate for the 2027 general election, describing the reports as false and unauthorised.
National Vice Chairman of the party, Ceekay Igara, said no individual has the authority to speak for the party on such decisions, stressing that only the National Executive Council (NEC) can adopt a candidate.
Speaking on Arise TV, Igara said the party has not taken any position on the 2027 election, noting that it currently has no candidates or aspirants due to ongoing internal legal disputes.
He added that any statement suggesting endorsement or adoption of a candidate is a personal opinion and not the position of the Labour Party.
Igara also dismissed claims made by some individuals about the party’s leadership structure, insisting that only recognised party organs can make official pronouncements.
The party is currently awaiting the outcome of a Court of Appeal ruling expected to resolve its internal leadership crisis.
On former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Igara said he remains free to pursue his political ambitions on any platform of his choice.
He maintained that the Labour Party is repositioning itself ahead of future elections and will take decisions on candidates and possible alliances at the appropriate time.
