The Labour Party, led by Barrister Julius Abure, has vowed to appeal a Federal High Court judgment recognizing Esther Nenadi Usman’s Caretaker Committee as party leaders.
The ruling by Justice Peter Lifu, seen as contradicting the April 2025 Supreme Court decision, appointed Usman, a non-member, as Caretaker Chairman.
The party says the Supreme Court clearly stated that courts cannot intervene in internal party leadership issues.
National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh called the judgment “contradictory and procedurally flawed,” criticizing the court for denying the party a chance to respond before ruling.
He also dismissed claims that the party’s tenure expired, noting a March 2024 convention renewed leadership.
The Labour Party urged members to stay calm, promising to fight the ruling at the Court of Appeal and protect its leadership.
