Labour Party Urges Nigerians to Keep Faith in Democracy Despite Challenges

The Labour Party has called on Nigerians not to lose faith in democracy despite the country’s economic and security challenges, describing it as the best path to national development and prosperity.

In a Democracy Day message, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad and urged citizens to remain committed to democratic values and national unity.

The party said June 12 provides an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists whose struggles paved the way for the return of civilian rule in Nigeria.

While acknowledging that Nigeria’s democratic journey has been marked by setbacks and unmet expectations, the Labour Party said citizens must not give in to despair.

Asogwa urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resolute, stressing that the country’s future holds greater possibilities than its current difficulties.

The party also called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, unemployment, hunger and infrastructure deficits affecting millions of Nigerians.

According to the Labour Party, democracy remains the most participatory system of government because it places citizens at the centre of governance and allows them to choose their leaders through periodic elections.

The party added that the dividends of democracy must be felt more directly by ordinary Nigerians through improved living conditions and responsive leadership.
