The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions on Independence Bridge on Lagos Island from Friday night, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, 2026, to allow urgent asphalt repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
The statement said the repairs would continue through Saturday and Sunday, with sections of the bridge partially closed one at a time and one lane kept open to motorists.
“Traffic will be diverted on the Independence Bridge in Lagos Island as the Federal Ministry of Works commences urgent repairs of the bridge,” the statement said.
The government said Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials would be deployed to manage traffic and minimise delays.
It advised motorists to use alternative routes, allow extra travel time, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officials throughout the repair period.
