The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has challenged African Democratic Congress, governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour to explain how he plans to tackle the state’s traffic crisis if elected in 2027.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said Rhodes-Vivour’s criticism of the government’s handling of traffic must be matched with clear proposals on roads, mass transportation, financing and implementation.
Oladejo, in a statement, described traffic as a complex governance issue that cannot be reduced to political sound bites, given Lagos’ population, commercial activity and growing transportation demands.
He questioned where Rhodes-Vivour would build new roads, how his proposed mass-transit system would be financed, what the implementation framework would look like and the timelines for delivering results.
The APC spokesman also defended Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat against Rhodes-Vivour’s criticism, arguing that political disagreements should not erase Hamzat’s years of experience in public service.
Oladejo said Rhodes-Vivour was entitled to criticise the administration and identify areas where he believes it had fallen short, but argued that experience remained relevant in addressing Lagos’ challenges.
He also questioned Rhodes-Vivour’s recent disclosure that he had engaged a Yoruba teacher, saying learning the language was commendable but should be accompanied by a deeper understanding of Lagos’ history, culture, institutions, economy and the aspirations of its residents.
Oladejo urged Rhodes-Vivour to focus less on defining Hamzat and more on presenting a comprehensive programme for governing Lagos ahead of the 2027 election.
He said Lagosians should assess candidates not only on their criticisms of the government but also on their proposed policies and capacity to implement them.
