Lagos APC Denies Imposition Plot, Calls Claims False

The All-Progressives Congress in Lagos has rejected claims of a plot to impose candidates ahead of upcoming legislative elections, describing the reports as “malicious falsehoods.”

In a statement on Thursday, Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi said the allegations were “a desperate fabrication” aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party.

“There is no plot, no clandestine meetings, and no predetermined list of candidates as falsely alleged,” he said.

Ojelabi accused unnamed actors of spreading propaganda and attempting to destabilize the party, warning that such efforts would not derail its democratic processes.

The party said it has alerted security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission and other stakeholders to what it described as activities of “political mischief-makers.”

“These actors seek to create distrust and undermine confidence in our transparent processes,” the statement said.

The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to the Electoral Act, party constitution and national guidelines, stressing that candidate selection would follow due process.

“Where consensus fails, direct primaries will be conducted. This position is settled and non-negotiable,” Ojelabi said.

He urged party members and the public to disregard the reports, insisting that “internal democracy will prevail” and that the will of party members would determine candidate emergence.
