Lagos APC Fires Back at Atiku Over Insecurity and Hunger Claims

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Monday hit back at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar after he warned that hunger and hardship in Nigeria could spark unrest.

Atiku had said the growing hunger and poverty are “unacceptable” and warned that the situation could lead to social unrest if the government does not act. His office said the rise in hunger and hardship risks pushing people into crime and protests.

In a sharp reply, Lagos APC spokesman Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo called Atiku’s claim “delusional” and accused him of helping create the problems he now criticises.

The party said Atiku has “no moral right” to blame others because of his long role in past government decisions. The Lagos APC described him as the “godfather of national ruin” in its statement.

The federal government and the APC have made similar rebuttals before, saying Atiku’s warnings are exaggerated and politically driven.

They point to recent economic moves they say are improving the situation and urged Nigerians to judge by current data. Critics say those improvements are not felt by many people.

Analysts say both sides are aiming at voters as political debates heat up ahead of 2027. Some experts warn that shouting and name-calling will not solve real problems such as rising food prices and joblessness.

They say the government, opposition and civic groups should work together to deliver food help, create jobs and make security stronger.
