Lagos APC Targets 5 Million Votes, Urges Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of securing five million votes in the state as party leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The target was announced Monday, October 19, at a one-day retreat for party leaders and senior members of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The retreat, themed “The Road to the Ballot: One Team, One Strategy,” brought together party leaders and campaign officials to strengthen coordination, address internal disagreements and develop strategies for electoral success.

Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi said the party must translate its extensive grassroots structures and political networks into measurable electoral results.

“Our electoral target is clear and ambitious: five million votes out of the seven million votes we are targeting in Lagos State,” Ojelabi said.

He urged party leaders, elected representatives, political appointees and grassroots organisers to take responsibility for mobilising voters in their respective constituencies.

Ojelabi also announced an initiative, “Operation Deliver Your Polling Unit,” aimed at assessing party stakeholders’ contributions to electoral performance in their respective polling units.

He said the party would monitor grassroots engagement and evaluate performance while considering local circumstances, voter turnout and organisational challenges.

APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda also called for unity, reconciliation and inclusiveness, warning that internal divisions and conflicting instructions could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.

“Our strength is not merely in our numbers. Our strength is in our unity, our organisation, our discipline, and our ability to connect with the people,” Yilwatda said.

He urged party members to resolve disagreements through dialogue and established party mechanisms, adding that campaign structures must work together under a coordinated strategy.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged party members to remain loyal, patient and united, assuring them that their efforts would be rewarded in due time.

Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate and Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said his manifesto, expected to be unveiled later in October, would contain seven pillars, 31 chapters and 100 promises aimed at improving residents’ lives.

The campaign council’s leadership said the retreat should produce practical plans, clearly defined responsibilities and measurable targets to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and public engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
