Lagos APC Warns Against Premature Endorsement of Aspirants

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned party officials against endorsing aspirants ahead of the official primary process, describing such actions as unauthorized and destabilizing.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party chairman in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, expressed concern over reports that some local government chairmen have been publicly presenting certain aspirants as “consensus candidates.”
“These actions are wrong, unacceptable, and a clear violation of the principles of internal democracy, fairness, and due process for which our great party is known,” Ojelabi said.
Ojelabi added that such moves are capable of “generating avoidable tension, fueling suspicion, and causing needless division within our ranks at a time when unity and discipline remain paramount.”
He emphasized that the Lagos APC has not yet released any guidelines or timetable for its primaries, stressing that any attempt to project or anoint candidates at this stage is premature and lacks official backing.
The chairman warned that the party would not hesitate to sanction any official who continues to engage in such actions, adding that all aspirants who meet constitutional requirements would be given a fair and level playing field.
Reaffirming the party’s stance, Ojelabi urged officials expected to oversee the primaries to remain neutral in order to preserve unity, cohesion, and credibility within the APC.
